the perfect RPG

If life were that easy

I just realized that being a player in an RPG is equivalent to being stuck in a time loop, and knowing events in hindsight after each loop simply makes things worst.

This is a technique known as rotoscoping. So you're correct, rotoscoping is an animation technique that involves drawing scenes of shaded animation over real life footage to create a smooth and realistic-looking effect. It was pioneered by Max Fleischer and his team back in the 1940s when they made the absolutely gorgeous Superman cartoon from that era using rotoscoping, I highly recommend anybody who's interested in animation to check out that series. Fleischer went on to use the technique for the fluid animation seen in Popeye and the technique was also used before the advent of CG to make iconic effects like the lightsabers in Star Wars.
